Charging your RC Toy

Comparing to the similar products that are significantly larger, radio controlled toys had switched to a much more greener fuel a long time ago. The brief history of liquid fuel usage in RC industry had made a bad reputation and a very messy hobby. But the revolutionary solution came to the rescue. Batteries!
Battery operated radio controlled toys brought a whole lot of changes to the better and enjoying at and maintenance

There are two things to consider when you are starting to have this for a hobby

Chargers for radio controlled toys

Several types of chargers can make a difference and determine your RC toys lifespan. Here is the brief overview, and for the more details feel free to contact RCinity team members.

1. Rapid Chargers
Starting from the most popular, but also the bit pricier than the standard chargers, your toy will be ready to go just 2.5 - 5 hours after you initiate the batteries charging. Be careful if you choose this type of chargers, make sure that there is a monitoring system, or a overcharging prevention built in. We suggest to use the well known manufacturer over some no name charger even if it is a bit more expensive.

2. Instant Chargers
This charger type is the most expensive, but also the most effective when the raw power is needed quickly. These types can fully charge the batteries in a less then an hour. Though the regular usage is not recommended for every battery type, Nickel-based batteries can be fully charged under this period of time. Lithium-based battery will not use the benefit of the instant chargers, due to its slower charging mechanism.
The above mentioned two types are recommended for
NiCd, NiMH and Lithium-based battery, but you should perform an fully discharging once in the while to maintain top performance

3 Slow chargers aka boring-life-time-wasters

Maybe this type is more budget friendly, but wasting a 16-24 hours for a battery charging is a sin, if you ask RCinity team :) It is ok if you have an overnight rest, or if you have some spare time when preparing to the RC race, but if you have to wait a good half of a day in order to play, that's just not worth of it. This type does the best for your battery, but our advice is to choose more faster ones in order to enjoy more time with your toys. Slow chargers are used for NiCd battery and the recomended charging time is 24h before using them.

It is highly forbidden to inter-cross chargers designed for NiCd, and charge, e.g NiMH batteries, it will overcharge the battery and destroy its performance, but NiMH charger can be safely use to charge NiCd battery.

In the upcoming post we will describe several battery types mostly user in the RC World, but until then feel free to leave any question or comment you have.

Shopping for RC toys

Shopping for toys can sometimes be extremely exhausting and challenging at the same time.
While searching for the best solution, for the most value for the money, people often forget the reason why they are buying a certain toy or some part for their hobby. We are not speaking here about the situation when you forget for who you are buying the presents. We are speaking  about of the importance of the particular item, of the true meaning and whether you really need it.

Have you ever thought that you are buying something just because it is the current trend, or just because it is the next model of a toy you owned, please read on. You will find the most common ways of shopping for RC items in following lines.

The Sale

First of all, the most popular type of shopping, her majesty - The Sale. A fantastic product of the human nature where all we ever wanted is available for much less than we had to pay before. It is also very popular in the RC industry, as a growing trend. All we have to do is to wait a little bit and that Spitfire, or some monster truck model can be ours, and we can even save some money with that toy. Pretty simple, huh? But the resisting the advertising and that waiting part is the problem. Wait, there are more examples o shopping for toys.

On-line vs. traditional shopping for RC toys
There are certain people who still more enjoy the whole ritual of shopping more than the final product. They like to check every corner of the store, turn each an every product that is in stock and it really doesn't matter if they bought something, as long as they have the opportunity to examine the goods closer. Eventually they will buy something, but the whole experience of physical presence is important to them during shopping. On the other hand, on-line stores and e-shops provide a different experience. While checking a certain item, many other products are displayed, so you can create a whole package of a new helicopter model with spare parts and tool, for a very short period of time. All that with saving some money, since it is known that costs of selling over the Internet is much cheaper than the cost of the store.

New vs. used toys and parts
Most recent researches are pointing to the very serious trend of the product lifespan shortening. What does this mean? Well, first of all we have to now that every toy has a time when it is cool and the time it is not. There are exceptions for this, but we will not mention them now. If the toy is new it doesn't necessary mean that it is better than the used one. The product lifespan in every industry is defining what items will be of permanent success for all times, and what other will be a passing fad. With proper care of the toys and its sensitive parts this is also something you can make impact on, and automatically create classical toys.

What are your experiences on shopping for toys and parts? What is your favorite way of shopping? Let us know in the comments bellow.

How to choose best radio controlled toy

Whether it is a gift for your special someone, or just another piece in your collection, finding the proper  radio controlled toy sometimes can be a really tough challenge. The wast amount of choices can be one of the causes for this, but all is not lost! It can be easily handled and the perfect toy for the occasion can be chosen. Second factor that causes the most hesitation is the price, but since you are already reading this blog, we can presume that you know what an investment in radio controlled toy means, and you know real value of this precious items.

Here are few tips on how you can eliminate stress that searching for a perfect toy can bring you:

1.) Ask!
Simple, yet extremely effective when it comes down to toys, and all presents in general. Maybe it eliminates the element of surprise, but  it also gives you the assuring that you wont be making a wrong decision. Of course, in the case you are buying yourself a new toy, you should ask yourself (twice) what is the thing that you want, especially if you are on the limited budget.

2.) Detective work
Do a little research about the current trends in toys. Let's face it, no one loves having a same present twice, or even worse, a "yesterday news" in RC world. Don't be lazy and hesitate to dig in to the exploration of the market. The results will be amazing, and the final outcome will be worth of it. Just imagine the look on your face, or your special someone, when the right toy is chosen. Simply priceless!

3.) "Newest is  always the best!"
When some new and long awaited model pops up on the market it doesn't mean that this should be your next purchase. Often several competitors launch new models on a similar date, or couple of days after one another just for the sake of launching the competitive product. This can seriously affect the quality of the toy. We suggest that you forget the above mentioned quotation and that you always test the toy if you can before you buy it, or maybe read on an expert opinion in some review. On R/Cinity blog there are several reviews in preparation, so you will be soon informed about the details.

4.) Flier, swimmer, crawler
As no human is the same when it comes to any part of the living world, same goes to the affinity towards the radio controlled toys. That is where the abundance of various brands and models is coming from. Let us imagine for a second that person is having an affection for, lets say, radio controlled boats. He has a nice collection of several boats, and naturally you would presume that the coolest super boat is a perfect gift for this fellow. Well, from a personal experience, we can tell you that it is usually something new, and out of the water, up in the sky or out on the pitch. Convert those hard core geeks out there, and let them feel something different.

5.) Spare parts can do the trick
It s not just the case that fastest or the coolest toys make the perfect gift. It often comes down to those elements that stay in the background - the spare parts. As every machine, toys often need repair and spare parts changing. This is a must if you plan on hitting the professional or hobbyist lobby. Races, hi speed crashes and collisions take their toll, and you just have to be prepared. So choose wisely.
