Charging your RC Toy

Comparing to the similar products that are significantly larger, radio controlled toys had switched to a much more greener fuel a long time ago. The brief history of liquid fuel usage in RC industry had made a bad reputation and a very messy hobby. But the revolutionary solution came to the rescue. Batteries!
Battery operated radio controlled toys brought a whole lot of changes to the better and enjoying at and maintenance

There are two things to consider when you are starting to have this for a hobby

Chargers for radio controlled toys

Several types of chargers can make a difference and determine your RC toys lifespan. Here is the brief overview, and for the more details feel free to contact RCinity team members.

1. Rapid Chargers
Starting from the most popular, but also the bit pricier than the standard chargers, your toy will be ready to go just 2.5 - 5 hours after you initiate the batteries charging. Be careful if you choose this type of chargers, make sure that there is a monitoring system, or a overcharging prevention built in. We suggest to use the well known manufacturer over some no name charger even if it is a bit more expensive.

2. Instant Chargers
This charger type is the most expensive, but also the most effective when the raw power is needed quickly. These types can fully charge the batteries in a less then an hour. Though the regular usage is not recommended for every battery type, Nickel-based batteries can be fully charged under this period of time. Lithium-based battery will not use the benefit of the instant chargers, due to its slower charging mechanism.
The above mentioned two types are recommended for
NiCd, NiMH and Lithium-based battery, but you should perform an fully discharging once in the while to maintain top performance

3 Slow chargers aka boring-life-time-wasters

Maybe this type is more budget friendly, but wasting a 16-24 hours for a battery charging is a sin, if you ask RCinity team :) It is ok if you have an overnight rest, or if you have some spare time when preparing to the RC race, but if you have to wait a good half of a day in order to play, that's just not worth of it. This type does the best for your battery, but our advice is to choose more faster ones in order to enjoy more time with your toys. Slow chargers are used for NiCd battery and the recomended charging time is 24h before using them.

It is highly forbidden to inter-cross chargers designed for NiCd, and charge, e.g NiMH batteries, it will overcharge the battery and destroy its performance, but NiMH charger can be safely use to charge NiCd battery.

In the upcoming post we will describe several battery types mostly user in the RC World, but until then feel free to leave any question or comment you have.
